What to Expect When Working With Us

Making the complex simple
We aim to make tax advice feel clear, practical, and easy to act on.

What you can expect from us?

1. We want to get to know you
We want to get to know you or your business, so when you first send us an enquiry, expect a few (well OK a lot of) questions.

We may arrange an initial meeting, or Teams call or we may gather information over email or using factfinds.
2. Better, more relevant advice
The more we understand you and the better we get to know you, the more meaningful our advice will be.

It may take time initially, but it’s well worth it.

Once we have obtained the information we need from you to allow us to think about a solution to your problem, (which could take a few days or a couple of weeks depending on the complexity of your situation, as well as how organised you are 😊), we will let you have a proposal and fee quote.
3. Fixed fees
For the majority of the work we do, our fee quote will be on a fixed fee basis; as we like you to know what you are dealing with. (The only exceptions to this tend to be HMRC disputes and investigations work).
4. Go ahead
Once you’re happy with the solution we have proposed to your tax problem, we will arrange to complete client take-on formalities.

We usually ask for a percentage of our fixed fee upfront and once this is paid we can start work.

We will advise you of the likely timescales for completing your project.
5. The deliverable
In virtually all case you will receive a written advice letter or report setting out our recommendations. Once you have had chance to read through that, we will arrange a call or meeting to discuss it with you, so that you can ask us any questions.
6. Beyond the tax advice
After our tax advice, there may be other work to be done. Often this might be legal work, but you may also need a wealth adviser, a trustee, an accountant or a lender. At ETC Tax our job doesn’t end once we complete our advice report, and we regularly work with other professional advisers (whether your own or recommended by us) to provide a completely holistic advisory service.

What We’ll Need From You

To keep things moving, we may ask you to provide information promptly, review drafts, and let us know if anything changes.

Scope and additional work

Our work is delivered on a project basis, as agreed in your engagement letter. If anything falls outside scope, we’ll discuss it with you first before proceeding.

Updates and timelines

Some matters involve waiting for HMRC or third parties. We’ll keep you updated at sensible intervals, and you’re welcome to contact us at any time if you’d like a progress update.
