PwC has removed a requirement that new employees achieve a minimum of a 2:1 at university. Thus acknowledging that talent and potential is “determined by more than academic grades”, as quoted in the Guardian.
The question is… It is archaic to still judge people on their grades or where their university ranked on a league table?
Here at ETC Tax we have a wide range of talent. This includes those with top academic achievements according to their university degrees.
We have barristers, those with first-class degrees, people with two degrees, we have a qualified lawyer and a someone with a doctorate. Not to mention the many professional qualifications we have amongst the team!
However, not all of us went to university. Not all our team have letters behind (or in front) of their names, but this certainly does not make them less valuable. In fact, we feel that the variety of skills, experience and qualifications throughout our team gives us the upper hand when it comes to working with our clients. It also means we have the right attributes and capabilities to make a difference within our company too.
When searching for our next recruit into the ETC family, we look above and beyond a piece of paper. We look for emotional intelligence, the ability to work collaboratively, honesty, and positivity. These are all essential to the way we do business. Think you could have a career with us?

That is looking beyond academic skills when it comes to their team. They are realising there is more to a person than their grades.
