Tax Careers at ETC Tax

Employed and self-employed opportunities for experienced UK tax advisers

We’re always interested in hearing from experienced UK tax professionals, including those seeking employed roles, and those with 10+ years’ experience advising on UK tax who are considering self-employment, or who are already self-employed but miss being part of a team.

If you’re exploring your next step in your tax career, we offer flexible ways of working that focus on doing good tax work properly and supporting long-term careers in tax.

Opportunities for self-employed tax advisers

Are you already working as an independent tax adviser? Or perhaps you’re quietly thinking about going self-employed?

Many experienced tax advisers are drawn to independence for the autonomy it brings – choosing their own clients, controlling their own workloads, and setting their own working hours.

But working as a self-employed tax adviser can also mean fewer opportunities to sense-check technical views, discuss complex tax issues, or simply share the professional load.

Equally, if you’re thinking about becoming self-employed, you may be excited by the idea of the freedom it will bring, but concerned about how isolating independent practice might feel.

There is a way to have both.

At ETC Tax, we work with experienced self-employed tax advisers and independent tax consultants who want independence without isolation. You retain your autonomy, professional judgement and flexibility, while benefiting from being part of a collaborative tax team with access to technical discussion, peer support and shared expertise.

If you want autonomy but still want community, speak to us.

Our self-employed and hybrid tax adviser models are designed to suit advisers at different stages of their careers. Location doesn’t matter, and neither does tax discipline or specialism – what matters is experience, technical confidence and a commitment to high-quality UK tax advisory work and excellent client service.

Even if you’re unsure what your next tax career move might be, or you’re committed to working independently but want reassurance around support, collaboration and technical discussion, we’d still encourage you to get in touch, as we will shortly (April 2026) be launching The Independent Tax Forum, (a network aimed at supporting self-employed tax advisers and those running independent tax practices).

Contact us at careers@etctax.co.uk to discuss flexible tax roles, or self-employed tax advisory opportunities or simply for an informal, no-pressure conversation about tax careers.

Employed roles at ETC Tax

We’re always interested in hearing from skilled tax professionals who, like us, genuinely enjoy working in tax.

As a small, specialist UK tax firm, we offer flexible working free from the constraints that often come with larger practices. This allows our team to focus on doing good technical work, develop genuine expertise in their chosen areas, and shape a career that fits around real life, not the other way round.

Our employed roles suit people who want to be fully integrated into a close-knit tax team, work directly on advisory matters, and build depth of experience rather than simply progress through job titles.

From time to time, we also recruit for business support roles that play a key part in how the firm operates and supports clients.

If you’re exploring employed tax roles, flexible tax careers, or business support opportunities within a specialist tax practice, we’d be happy to hear from you.

Get in touch at careers@etctax.co.uk for an informal conversation about working with ETC Tax.

Life at ETC Tax

As a small business, we are not constrained by the politics, bureaucracy and structure of larger firms which enables us to remain agile and flexible, to think creatively and to innovate. Change is common at ETC Tax but change generally brings opportunities and allows us to move forwards.

We encourage our people to be involved, to make suggestions and to challenge what we do, as that it how we will thrive. We genuinely believe that all of our team have a valuable contribution to make, and we want to hear from them. In a small business such as ours, everyone counts.

We expect commitment and loyalty from our team, but in turn we work hard to ensure they feel valued and listened to.

Collaboration and working together as a team is really important to how we do business and so is having the opportunity to spend time together outside of work.

We believe ETC Tax is ‘great to work for and great to work with’ but don’t take our word for it…see what members of our team have to say about working here…
